When buying a purebred dog, it is important to be careful that the registration papers come from a legitimate registration body. That is, registration must be from an accredited organization such as CFC, FCI, AKC, UKC depending on the country in which the puppy was whelped. Those "papers" not from accredited organizations (i.e FIC, FAC, ACA, APR --see DDBS Website for further listings) are not considered legitimate and as such the puppy/dog can not legally be represented as a purebred dog. Often backyard breeders will make claims that the "puppies are registered/papered" so be sure that you are getting the pedigreed animal you believe you are. If you are paying money for a purebred dog, make sure that you that you are getting just that and not just getting “had” by those looking to make a quick dollar.
Registered DdB puppies typically cost between $2000-3000. Anything less and I would be skeptical about just what I’m getting. If it seems too good to be true, it usually is. A “bargain” puppy seldom is a true bargain and may leave you paying huge vet bills, dealing with temperament issues and having no breeder to rely on for support.
Responsible breeders will require that you spay/neuter pet puppies, will offer a written health guarantee, will have many questions for you as they are concerned about the life the puppy will have, will be involved in breed clubs and dog events, and will health tests their breeding dogs and ask that you keep in touch with them throughout the dog’s lifetime. Responsible breeders will want responsible owners for their puppies! A dog is a serious commitment!!!
